You dictate or type what you want in the record, then optional Komodo Assist tools (Polish, Draft, and others) work only on that text. Both use AI to help with clinical notes. The fundamental difference is when and how the AI enters the process.

  • How it captures — Mic runs in the background during the entire encounter, recording the conversation / You dictate when you choose, between rooms, after the visit, or at your desk. You control the recording window.
  • What goes to the AI — The full patient-provider conversation, often including sensitive context, is sent to the AI service / Only the text you’ve already dictated or typed. You decide what to include before any AI tool runs.
  • Output — Automatically generated note draft from the conversation, requires review before use / Your dictated text, shaped by Smart Phrases and templates, with optional Komodo Assist you run on demand
  • Clinician control — AI makes the first structural decisions about what goes in the note / You write the note, AI tools only run when you invoke them, and only on text you’ve already produced
  • Patient awareness — Requires explicit patient consent; some patients decline ambient recording / No ambient recording, dictation is separate from the patient encounter
